Kitchen fabrics: consider care as well as style

Kitchen window coverings should complement your interior and suit everyday use. Before choosing a fabric, discuss its location, likely dirt and permitted cleaning methods as well as light control.

01 / Choosing fabrics

Beautiful fabric. Clear care instructions.

Consider how close the sink or food preparation area is to the window. This helps the consultant assess whether the fabric's care requirements will suit you. An “easy care” label is not enough; ask for specific instructions.

Compare samples with cabinet fronts, walls and the window frame. Also check whether the recommended cleaning method requires removing the blind in a way that would be inconvenient for you.

02 / Choosing fabrics

Stain-repellent treatments have limits.

Some materials are treated to resist certain household stains. A special treatment may, for example, help repel some water-based dirt. This does not mean the fabric will never stain or will repel all grease.

Key points: stain resistance and washability are different properties.

03 / Choosing fabrics

Discuss three things before ordering.

Where will the blind be installed? How often will it need cleaning? How much light and privacy do you want? Your answers help identify the right material, while accurate measurements ensure compatibility with opening the window.

Frequently asked questions

Is any washable fabric suitable for a kitchen?

Its intended use, location and construction also matter. Washability alone does not tell the whole story.

Can I scrub a stain firmly?

Check the instructions first. Vigorous rubbing can alter the fabric's surface.
