Fabrics and light

Why does light enter around the edges of roller blinds?

Blackout describes a fabric's ability to block light. A complete blind also has a structure, fixings and edges. Strips of light may therefore remain in the room even when a blackout roller blind is lowered.

Fabric and installation work together.

When choosing a bedroom blind, look beyond the fabric sample. Assess the area the product will cover and where light could enter around it. Window handles, the recess and opening sections also affect the solution.

This is especially relevant for light sleepers and daytime rest. Before measuring, explain whether you want to soften the light or make the room as dark as possible.

What can side channels do?

In systems designed for the purpose, side channels help reduce light gaps. Not every guide serves the same function: fabric stabilisation and light blocking must be assessed for the specific product.

Key points: the words “cassette” or “side guides” alone do not guarantee complete darkness.

Accurate measurements. Realistic expectations.

Your consultant will assess the fixing position, covered area and window operation. We will discuss the options for your window and where light may remain. Have this conversation before choosing the fabric colour.

We will coordinate samples with furniture, walls and window frames, and match the technical solution to your desired result.

Frequently asked questions

Does a darker fabric always darken the room better?

Colour alone cannot tell you. Check the fabric's light-blocking properties.

Can side channels be added to any roller blind?

That depends on system compatibility and installation conditions.
